Global Update - Learning & Development

In April, we launched our exciting new Learning Management System (LMS) for the marcus evans Group. With the tremendous positive feedback and suggestions from senior leaders globally in all divisions through the initial walkthroughs, we were able to structure and customise the LMS based on our global needs.

For the Phase 1 of the launch, while we have only released content in the categories of Health & Wellbeing, IT & Tech Tools, Human Resources and Miscellaneous, we will soon be releasing content in the categories of Division Specific Trainings and Leadership.

A special thanks to all leaders and members who have been consistently supporting us through their feedback and sharing content used in their teams. This has helped us build a great starting point for content strategy on the LMS.

This is just the beginning of our great journey together in building a strong, innovative and continued learning and development for all. We plan to share more exciting updates with everyone as we go!

If you haven’t accessed the LMS yet, it is never too late! Click Here.

Global Update – HR

A Conflict of Interest (COI) Policy was recently introduced globally for the marcus evans Group. This policy helps as a guideline for Managers and Employees to understand and deal with potential conflict of interest in the best interest of the organisation, and help maintain the trust of our stakeholders.

This policy aims to provide guidelines and procedures to identify, manage, and disclose conflicts of interest appropriately to the COI Committee.

Click Here to learn more about the policy through an E-Learning course on our LMS.

Miami

In March, the Miami office was very excited for an opportunity to represent marcus evans at one of Florida’s most prestigious Universities Career Fair at FIU. We had an opportunity to meet a number of potential candidates and spread the awareness of job opportunities created within the Miami office.

New York

March was a standout month for the NY team with USD 1.37m in written business with deals across all events with multiple scorers. Fantastic performance from all team members. Very excited about the next wave of NY rising stars Josh Myree, Jeffry Stilt and Tyler Liantonio plus a warm welcome to Elena Cohen and Ulises Rivera who joined the team earlier in the year. Hot off the heels from our February team building which involved a boardroom session about our vision, culture and standards followed by some bonding over bowling across town in Chelsea Piers came lots of event prep with multiple Summits (there’s a March madness plug here somewhere). However, it was phenomenal to see the teamwork from all spinning the plates with new business in the office also. The best is yet to come- 1-2-3: Clap!

San Diego

Our recent hires spent a day at the Fairmont Grand Del Mar to see their first Summit in action. Deandre Gitana Cretain and Sean Blackmer rang in their first deals on the office gong. Recent hire Kaya Acker celebrated her first deal! We also welcomed Cyprus visitors Mina Chrysanthou and Raya Ivanova to America’s Finest City by going to drinks and dinner downtown. It’s always great to see members of our global family!

Derek Conway came to the Japan office early February, and we had his welcome party. Later in February, Marcus Evans, John Farry, and Bulent Halil also visited our office.

A team building activity was held in March, and we had a go-kart riding tournament and BBQ party. We also had a farewell lunch party end of March for Joohyun Park and Sungah Jang before they went (back) to the brand new Korea office.

Careers Fair in the UK

In March, we attended a careers fair at the Colchester United football ground, drumming up new activity for our Brentwood, Essex office. The event was part of the UK Careers Fair, the UK’s #1 Platform for Face-to-Face Recruitment.

The London Summits Division has doubled its revenue in January-March 2023 compared to the same quarter last year, with a good spread of deals throughout the team and some notable performances. The team has been following a “Coach of the Week” rotation each week handing the reigns to a different team member to get the best out of the group, culminating each Friday with the Coach telling their story and answering 20 questions about themselves. Notable unexpected learnings from the photos and stories shared are that Petruta Moldovan is a Hells Angel, Chi Lee can run 8km in under 20 minutes and Alex van der Ploeg was caught grinning in family and friends!

Educational Tour of Linguarama: When Kazakhstan came to London

In pre-covid times, we used to run regular tours of our UK training centres - a chance for our clients, and potential clients, to experience hands on our English in England offering.

With the Covid induced hiatus now behind us, and our English in England operations in London now back to a more normal level of activity, we were able to welcome our first group of high-level educational tour participants (all ‘C level’ HR people) from Kazakhstan representing a number of top companies in the country. Team Linguarama London (Inkeri Abbotts, Mathew Davies, Henry Toniolo Wood, Steve Iowe and Katie Sorrell for support) choreographed a busy schedule over the three days which included a sample English for International Business workshop, an Intercultural Competence taster session, as well as opportunities to network with students studying in the centre, and staff/ME colleagues. We also included a splash of English culture too and took them for afternoon tea, a West End musical and, of course, a fish and chip supper. It was a very successful three days.

We are already planning our next educational tours later this autumn where, hopefully, we will have more nationalities represented.

Cape Town

Our Cape Town direct marketing team which markets our pan European portfolio had a solid quarter with our French and German PT regions (the latter being marketed from our Berlin office contributing almost 50 percent of all European PT business in Q2. This sets us up well for the future as we continue to add more bespoke products into each market. Furthermore, most of our trainings in each region have been in person which is extremely encouraging, highlighting the continual growing appetite for face-to-face learning.

Our English language training direct marketing team (Linguarama) also based out of Cape Town made steady progress in Q2 and it has been encouraging to see the number of face-to-face consultations which were booked over the course of the last three months. Excited to see how many of these the team will convert in the coming quarter.
